General integration course
The integration course is divided into a basic and advanced course (each with 300 teaching units) and an orientation course (100 teaching units). The course takes place as a full-time course from Monday to Thursday from 5 to 9 pm. The integration course concludes with the German Test for Immigrants (DTZ) and the "Living in Germany" test.

An integration course is aimed at people who are living in Germany permanently and speak little or no German.

Children, teenagers and young adults who are still attending school are not allowed to participate.

Foreigners who are granted a permanent residence permit for the first time are legally entitled to attend an integration course. You will receive a confirmation of eligibility from the immigration authority that issued the residence permit. If they do not have basic or, in certain cases, sufficient German language skills, the Foreigners' Registration Office will also make it compulsory for them to attend a course.
- Foreigners who have already been living in Germany for some time can be obliged by the foreigners authority to attend a course if they are in particular need of integration.
- Foreigners who receive benefits in accordance with the Second Book of the German Social Code (unemployment benefit II) may be obliged to take part in a course by the provider of basic benefits for jobseekers.
- Late repatriates and their family members have a legal right to attend an integration course. You will receive a confirmation of eligibility from the Federal Office of Administration.
- In addition, the following persons may be admitted to the integration course upon application by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, subject to available course places:
- Foreigners who are not legally entitled to participate. This also includes persons with a residence permit if they are expected to stay in Germany legally and permanently.
- Union citizen entitled to freedom of movement
- German nationals with a special need for integration

The general integration course comprises 700 lessons and aims to teach German language skills at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in 600 lessons and knowledge of the legal system, culture and history in Germany in 100 lessons. The acquisition of German language skills is based on everyday topics such as work, housing, health or public offices and authorities. The 100-lesson orientation course covers the topics of politics in democracy, history and responsibility as well as people and society. The general integration course concludes with the two scaled final tests "Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer" (DTZ) and "Leben in Deutschland" (LiD).

Prospects after the qualification
Foreigners from a country outside the European Union must fulfill certain requirements if they wish to obtain a permanent right of residence in Germany. Among other things, you must have sufficient knowledge of the German language as well as basic knowledge of the legal and social order and living conditions in Germany. Successful completion of the integration course fulfills these requirements. In addition, you may then be able to naturalize earlier.
